Some Basic Goal-setting Help

I found a great list at About.com with tips for setting and keeping goals. Here's a summary:

  • "Pick one goal and focus on it." When you've completed it, then you can move on.
  • "Start small and easy," with something you know you can do.
  • "Simplify." Choose small goals or break larger goals down into obtainable chunks.
  • "Write it down."
  • "Keep track every day."
  • "You have to want it."
  • "Schedule the time" and keep it sacred!
  • "Be firm but flexible." Keep yourself to commitments, but understand that you're not perfect and give yourself a break on the occasion that you can't fulfill your goal.
  • "Be positive."
  • "Pray about it." If you're religious like me, you may want to pray for confirmation that your goals are good, worthy goals that are right for you.
